Leaving aside the issue of abuse/diversion, stimulant medications have the potential to be “performance enhancing” for nearly all in 21st century American society, and these symptoms occur on a spectrum without a clear boundary that defines “functional impairment”. This is a real conundrum in primary care, and the slippery slope and potential for overwhelming our clinical resources as Jonathan Wells mentioned is very real.
